Shopify B2B net terms: the complete guide
Payment terms are now on every Shopify plan. Here is how they work, where they stop, and what you need around them to get paid on time.
What changed in 2026
Until 2026, native B2B on Shopify was a Plus feature. On 2 April 2026 Shopify brought its core B2B tools to the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans at no extra cost: company profiles, up to three active B2B catalogs assigned through Markets, volume pricing, vaulted credit cards and payment terms.
Some things remain Plus-only, including unlimited catalogs, catalogs assigned directly to a company, and deposits or partial payments. Payment terms themselves are available on every paid plan.
The payment terms Shopify offers
| Term | When payment is due |
|---|---|
| Due on fulfilment | When the order is fulfilled |
| Net 7, 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 | That many days after the order is placed or the invoice is sent |
| Fixed date | On a specific date you set |
You set a default term on each company location, and can change it on individual orders.
What happens when an invoice goes overdue
Shopify marks the order's payment as overdue and can send the buyer a payment reminder. That is where it stops. The buyer is not blocked from ordering again, there is no limit on how much they can owe, and there is no aging report of your outstanding balances.
For a handful of trusted buyers, that can be enough. As the number of trade accounts grows, so does the time spent checking who has paid and chasing who has not, and the amount of stock you have shipped without being paid for it.
What a net terms setup needs around it
- A credit limit per buyer, so one account cannot run up more than you can afford to lose. See credit limits.
- A hold rule, so an overdue account cannot keep ordering. See credit holds.
- A reminder schedule that starts before the due date. See payment reminders.
- A way to collect, ideally from the card the buyer saved at checkout. See due-date collection.
- An aging report, so you know your exposure at a glance. See aging report.
Setting it up
Create your companies and locations in Shopify, assign a catalog and set the default payment terms for each location. Then install a credit control app such as Terms Due to add limits, holds, reminders and collection. Our Net 30 on Shopify guide walks through the steps.
Questions
Is Shopify B2B available on the Basic plan?
Yes. Since 2 April 2026, Basic, Grow and Advanced include company profiles, up to three B2B catalogs, volume pricing, vaulted cards and payment terms.
Can Shopify block orders from customers with overdue invoices?
Not natively. You need to change the company's settings by hand, or use an app like Terms Due that blocks checkout automatically.
Does Shopify B2B have credit limits?
Shopify B2B does not check a company's outstanding balance against a credit limit at checkout. Credit limit apps add this.
